2008 Missouri Bird Conservation Initiative Conference

The 2008 MoBCI Conference will be held on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16 at the Days Inn on Hwy. 70 and Stadium in Columbia Missouri. This years theme will be “Renewable Energy; Is It For The Birds?” and will include a presentation on how the development of alternative sources of energy may impact resource management and the future for bird conservation.

The key note speaker will be the Central United States Regional Science Director for TNC,  Joe Fargione. Mr. Fargione will address the crowd on Friday night during the social with a presentation covering the issue of renewable energy, how this issue impacts resource management, and how to deal with the problems and opportunities.

There will also be presentations Saturday morning divided into 2 separate time slots. During these time slots, presentations will cover individual potential sources of energy development and the potential positive and negative impacts to birds. The balance of time in both sessions will be devoted to audience participation in a panel discussion setting with our panel of invited experts.

There will also be an opportunity for conference participants to view and discuss 2007 MoBCI projects with project originators in poster sessions that will run concurrent with scheduled breaks. It is the goal of this format to enhance partner awareness of what is currently being accomplished and provide a catalyst for the development of existing projects and the formulation of innovative new ones.

There will also be a silent auction that will run from the start of the conference and conclude during lunch on Saturday. The silent auction will consist of a variety of donated items from member organizations. The funds raised will be used to supplement the MoBCI project grant program. Please refer to our website at mobci.org for a conference agenda and registration information.
